Betting patterns

Poker, the popular game of chance, has an integral feature known as betting. To deal well with the concept of betting, poker games need quite a bit of the elements of skill and psychology.

You may plan your betting in a particular way, but as the game progresses and you play with your card, the situation begins to change. With a situation in which you have different cards and strategy, your betting cannot remain the same.

Betting or raising is actually an instrumental weapon in poker game. The players should bet whenever they think that they possess a best hand that can defeat other hands. This is done chiefly to raise the amount of bets in the pot. It is also to protect the hand next to drawing hands.

In Fixed Limit poker games, the betting limits are made by round. For example $20/$30 shows that the initial bets are $20, while the later bets and raises are $30. In Pot Limit poker games, the upper limit amount players can bet is equal to pot size. In No Limit poker, there is no structure or maximum limit on the bet or raise.

In order to determine when and how much to bet, one needs a large amount of skill and strategy. To make the betting determinations, you should first understand the odds to get a specific poker hand.

Before the hand is dealt with, the players put their money in the pot. In this way, each of the players gets something on stake in the poker game even before the dealing of the first card.

The players who are in late position also bet with strong drawing hands. It can be either to win the pot straight off or to make them receive any ‘free’ card on the next betting round where all players acting in front of them check.

When the player has in mind some overemphatic or even exaggerated betting moves, it can make the hand seem strong. It is quite easy to interpret your opponent’s hand by the way he bets. If you think that the move is really dynamic, you can smell weakness there. But if you find the move to be quiet and smooth, it can be strength.

The science to interpret the betting moves can be quite contrary to what you have expected at first. You should know here that the players who bluff or are weak often try to cover it under the garb of betting. Then you should not expect any bluffing player to make bet in a very calm manner so therefore not to have attention for himself.

So, the betting strategy keeps changing with the cards. When the available cards that make the hand are weak, a person makes betting with additional emphasis to appear strong. On the other hand, when the person has a strong hand, he tries to look casual to look weak. Keep changing your betting strategy as per the cards available with you.
